Hooker of the Month

From her humble beginnings as a poor Black child raised inside a dumpster in the alley where her family abandoned her, to her somewhat meteoric rise as Queen of All Hookers, Lynda's story is both cautionary and inspiring.

Her adolescent years were marked with tragedy when her favorite pet rat and only friend was barbequed and eaten by a neighboring homeless man. To make up for his faux-pas, the man gave Lynda his prized possession: a collection of beer bottle caps and stray coins which he had hoarded for over 23 years. Within the booty Lynda discovered a rare Buffalo nickle which she quickly traded for a sandwich and a pair of clean panties. Realizing the power of transaction, Lynda began to see what else she could barter to improve her station in life.

Puberty came quickly and with it came masses of unwanted body hair. Lynda used her ingenuity and a semi-clean razor blade that she found in the trash to shave her pits and nether regions. She then wove the tresses into belts, bandanas and blankets which she traded for soap, a toothbrush, and eventually for a small amount of cash. Her love for creating wooly art grew, and she gained a reputation as a competent street artiste. In 2012, her work was featured in the Guggenheim where her most famous hair rug, "A Tapestry of Crabs and Lice", won the sought-after "Warhol Would Shit Himself" award.

Currently Lynda hooks using more traditional materials, although her "pube placemats" are all the rage in Paris.

Sheep adoption can be an enriching experience, but it's a big decision. Traditional pet adoption demands certain lifestyle changes and a financial commitment and sheep adoption is no different. Estimating the monthly costs and making sure that you have the time and motivation to feed the sheep are just as important as providing a safe living environment.

It’s usually a good idea to get to know a little more about sheep habits, temperament and how sheep interact with humans before adopting. Learn the precursors and tell-tale signs of sheep behaviour. How do they sense fear? When are they becoming aggressive? Some pets will maintain much more happiness as long as they live socially, so your sheep may need a companion pet to be content. What exercise does your sheep need regularly? Do you have the space to provide it?

This month's sheep up for adoption is Betty. Betty was confiscated from a backyard butcher along with several other animals. She ended up at an L.A. County shelter and from there was transferred to Farm Sanctuary. After being treated for illness, trimmed, vaccinated, and shorn, she was feeling much better. She is approximately 12 years old, a Capricorn, and enjoys long walks on the beach.
